Delta TX4!

Who ever said that there's no such thing as a free lunch did not have the honor of visiting Delta pop-up terminal TX4 in Soho, NYC.

As I am not at a computer for a few days, I will just post some photos below. But let me say this, Delta has outdone itself- not only in generosity but so in cordiality!

They gave free lunch to medallion members each day, and I returned daily when possible, not only for the "free lunch" but also because the .8 mile walk was a nice daily walk, and I hoped each day to be one of the daily lunch goers to find a free RT cert in my lunch box.

I never won the free ticket, but met some lovely Delta employees (real ticket agents and flight attendants worked at TX4) and I got many other goodies- including: 10% off coupons, free drink coupons, 2 tickets to a Yankee game, a leather Delta passport holder, a Delta luggage tag, and 2 t-shirts: an orange Knicks shirt, and a royal blue TX4 shirt!

Guess the Miles Flown Giveaway! Win a Delta 10% coupon!

In trepidation of celebration of my upcoming MILEAGE RUN (from hell) - I decided to giveaway

(1)  a Delta Coupon (please hold the Delta jokes). Its actually a good coupon - the basics are:
10% off the price of any Delta ticket (for up to 2 persons) - to be used by 12/31/13 -  to or from any one of the three major New York airports, and

(2) a Delta free drink coupon

There will be a first and second place winner.  The winner will get first dibs on the prize.  Second place will get the other item.

All you have to do is leave a comment below guessing the final number of miles I'll be logging in the next week on my MILEAGE RUN (hopefully NOT from hell!).  The closest number wins.

I'll give you a few clues - but who knows what might happen with re-routes and delays.

clues:
I'll be flying for the better part of THREE full days!
All flights are domestic
Three of the many airports I'll be at are LGA, PHX and AUS

So, just enter the number of Delta miles you think I'll accrue from this MILEAGE RUN (what is hell, anyway?  ... what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger - Nietzsche).

The contest will close on Monday at 11:59 p.m. - after I finish the trip on Wednesday, and Delta has credited my account, I'll post the final numbers. You may enter more than once, but only your most recent entry counts.  Also, I'll be throwing in a few updates and hints in the next few days.

Austin, TX - Join us 4 Lunch on Tuesday

Custom-made boots on the theme of "Six Flags Over Texas" by Dave Wheeler at the Texas State History Museum (photo appeared in http://travel.nytimes.com/2006/09/17/travel/17Goingto.html)

As I mentioned in this post, I'll be on a Mileage Run crisscrossing across the United States for a few days next week.  DeltaPoints will be on the same mileage run, but of course, given his diamond Delta Medallion status, and my gold Delta Medallion status, he'll get the upgrades and I'll be the lowly soul in economy using drink coupons and eating Biscoff cookies.

I'm sure we'll do an upgrade tally and comparison at the end of the trip.

Well,  according to the schedule, we'll have time in Austin to actually head downtown, take a look around and meet up for some real Texas BBQ. I've never been to Austin, so I'm quite excited.

DeltaPoints is arranging a meetup for lunch on Tuesday.  If you are in Austin and would like to join us - please leave a comment here or on his page. My only preference - though I may feel different after two days of mileage running - is BBQ.  If you want to throw in some ideas for sightseeing, transportation, restaurants, or anything else, please comment on one of our pages!

You are always welcome to email me at willrunformiles@gmail.com, or tweet to me at @katruns26point2!

HELP - First Long MILEAGE RUN!! (part I)

there will be three posts today:

I.  Asking For Advice regarding Mileage Run (this post)
II. A kickass Giveaway -a coupon for 10% off a Delta Flight
III.  Arrange Lunch meet-up (mid- mileage run) in Austin, Texas with Delta Points and some of our Austin readers.

This Sunday to Wednesday will be my first extensive Mileage Run.  I will be in planes for the better part of 3 days.  OH MY GOD, am I crazy?  What did I get myself into?  Do I need my head examined?

The only prior Mileage Runs I've taken have been flights to the west coast with red-eye returns to the east coast.  I've also taken a number of flights because they were good prices (or mistake prices) but I've made each into mini-vacations.  But this is the big deal.

I have lots of questions and am looking for advice and tips.  Of course I will not be checking bags.  I am a Delta Gold Medallion so I am hoping for some upgrades.  I have a Platinum Amex card, so I have access to Sky Lounges.

Feel free to chime in with comments or suggestions.

1.  Clothing.  Obviously comfortable clothing.   Jeans? Leggings?  any suggestions?

2.  I never travel without bringing workout clothing - but its unlikely I'll get to a gym or even out for a run.  Maybe a walk through a few terminals?  I'm still tempted to bring one set of workout gear - you never know, right?

3.  Tech stuff - I have an iphone and an ipad.  I recently ordered a battery charger, but not sure it will arrive in time.  Will I be too bleary eyed to read books or watch movies? Will I have the wherewithal to blog while traveling?

4.  Wifi- I have a few GoGo passes so I should be covered.

5.  I have never taken a shower in an airport lounge.  Anything I should know?

6.  Am I going to go crazy after a few days of flying?

7.  Have I mentioned that my flight home is a red-eye, scheduled to leave 18 minutes after the next to last flight is scheduled to land?  Should we take bets on whether that's going to happen? Aye aye aye....

I'm sure I haven't even begun to think of all of the things I should remember to do or bring.  Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you so much.

and stay tuned for two more posts - one for the giveaway, and the second for the Austin Lunch Do.   -->

Norwegian Cruise Breakaway Launch Event at Ink48

Last night I attended a fabulous event in New York City hosted by the Kimpton hotel, Ink 48.  It was a launch party for Norwegian Cruise Line's newest cruise ship, the Breakaway, which will be docked right below Ink 48, on the Hudson River.  The Breakaway is notable for many reasons, including the fact that the artist, Peter Max, painted the hull of the ship.

The event was held at a duplex penthouse suite at the hotel called Heaven over Hell.

The event was described as a tweetup (hashtag #Breakaway)  for social media influencers and press.

It was a true honor to meet Peter Max, an icon, whose work I've always admired.

Many of  the Kimpton's NYC personnel were in attendance, among others, Katherine Brooks, Shannon Spillett, Dana R. Friedman and John Garone.  I've often said that I haven't met a Kimpton Hotel I didn't like.  The same holds true for Kimpton personnel.

Standing next to me is Danielle, Kimpton's fitness curator.  She plans to run her first marathon soon. (photo: Will Run For Miles)
It was a pleasure to see Angelina "Just Another Points Traveler" and Jake "Modhop" and to meet and mingle with many other bloggers and journalists.

Once again - thank you to all of the great people at Norwegian Cruises and Kimpton Hotels.
